It's the Country Life

In the short 5 months we have lived in the country we have come to the conclusion that it has it perks as well as it short comings. One of the things we love best is that it is relatively quiet in our neighborhood, yea we live on a main road but the house in the back of the neighborhood really have it made with their seclusion. We love that you can see the stars at night and that we can let our kids play in the front yard or driveway and not worry about them every second they are out there alone. While I am not a fan of Ben traveling and leaving us alone at night I don't worry near as much in our current house as I have in the past, extra outdoor lights and a home security system definitely help in that area.
One of the best parts of the neighborhood(if you count 12 houses on one street a neighborhood) is that many of houses have animals. Not just your average dog or two but many dogs, chickens, horses, fish in a big pond, and cows. We love taking walks on the street and visiting all the farm animals, I hope our kids will be the type that you have to beg to come inside to eat or because it is just too dark outside to see anymore.

These pictures were all taken in our neighbors yard, they are the only house with a fenced in front yard just so they can keep the horses in. We have fed these horses a few times and while they love the carrots I think we need to do a better job of not just invading their space and getting to know them gradually. The horse on the left was so excited to get food and companionship that she kind of charged the other horse to back off, um we were standing right there when this happened and I got kicked in the back of both legs by the horse charging. It wasn't comfortable by any means but I was so grateful that some bruises and a cut on the back of my leg was the worst thing that happened...I would have gone crazy if one of the kids had been hit, if he would have kicked me in the stomach, or the horse had knocked me over and into a pile of poop. I think the next time we go visit we will stand on the other side of the fence and slowly get to know these furry friends.
